A volleyball drill that focuses on techniques to recovered shanked shots.
This drill consists of the coach being the middle back and then you set up the remaining five like in a game situation on one side of the net. Then you have One of your players or an assistant coach toss the ball to the coach from the other side of the net, and the coach purposely shanks the ball backwards, tight to the net, short, way off the court, and purposely onto the ceilings where they learn how to play it off of obstacles in the playing area. These are all instances that happen in a game that we did not know how to return as well. Therefore, I thought it would be beneficial to teach them what to do when the ball was tight or way off the court by doing this drill. In the beginning, my girls were not so good but as time went on, they were awesome at it. Each player improved greatly, reacted well in the games, and had a lot of fun with it.
I recommend the coach being the person who shanks because this will obviously teach them how to pass wrong when the idea is to improve their skills. So overall this is a fun but beneficial drill.
